Sony and Nintendo are starting to heat things up again, with Nintendo’s announcement of the 3DS, and the (almost confirmed) rumors of Sony’s PSP2 to arrive in the next few months. Of course, everyone expects to see something big in these two releases, and both companies have told us what we might be able to get. Let’s see now what these two giants have for us.

Sony PSP2:
There are rumors circulating that Sony will release a new handheld device known as the PSP2, which will be released by late 2010. However, it remained a rumor because reports say that the handheld will not be able to make its debut on E3 due to its development stage and its competition with the 3DS, but might be debuting on Tokyo Game Show or GamesCon (according to IGN sources). Still, the PSP2 is said to be real and promises to give its people something to want it.

The PSP2 is said to have two integrated cameras, a touch screen display, two analog sticks, and a whopping 4-core processor. These are some (or all) of the features the PSP2 will be showing upon its release.

While still a rumor, these rumors say that Sony will deliver what it promises with the PSP2. Now we’ll just have to wait.

Nintendo 3DS:
Nintendo announced the 3DS to be released by early 2011. The company also announced that the 3DS will debut in E3, a great advantage over the PSP2’s release (dibs on E3!).

This new handheld is said to feature 3D technology without players to wear those special blue and red 3D glasses, a 3D joystick, “force feedback mechanism” for players to feel collisions of the game, and NVIDIA’s Tegra processor. Not all of these features are confirmed to be on the 3DS though.

Now, with all these making people salivate over the anticipation of these new handhelds, which will be able to deliver everything it promises? Nintendo clearly has the upperhand as of now, because it touched E3 first, and is already confirmed to hit stores by next year. But Sony may be able to give people a surprise.

All we can do now is wait.
